Three Parallel Concrete Demonstrations Programs
The FHWA Mobile Concrete Technology Center (MCTC) team will lead demonstrations focused on innovative methods for concrete pavement testing and quality control. This interactive mobile lab showcases cutting-edge concrete technology for materials selection, mixture design, and field and laboratory testing, and pavement evaluation.
The UCPRC Lab2Slab team will build and evaluate three Lab2Slab test cells to demonstrate construction practices, QC procedures, and field performance. The study assesses constructability and performance of PozzoDyne™ ground glass Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM), BioPozz carbon-rich SCM, and Vetrofluid surface treatment. CalPortland will supply the concrete.
Innovative early age concrete monitoring: The non-contact ultrasound testing device (nUT), developed by Quang Tran at Michigan Technological University, uses air-coupled Rayleigh (surface-wave) sensing to monitor concrete in real time. It tracks setting and stiffness gain from the fresh state through early hardening—without couplants, embedded sensors, or surface disruption. This represents a significant shift from experiential “sawing windows” to mechanics-based control, especially valuable when material properties vary.
11:00 am – 12:30 pm
Lunch will be provided from La Bangin’ Tacos (no-cost to conference attendees)
1:00 pm
End of Conference
